Patrick was the son of Philip Murphy and Elizabeth O'Brien both of Ireland.

 

Ellen Hall was the daughter of Nicholas Hall born 1791 in Ballytyrone, County Armagh, Northern Ireland and Marie Marcotte born 1801 in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada.  Nicholas Hall came to Canada in 1814 and served with the Glengarry Light Infantry from 1815 to 1816. He was rewarded with a land grant after being discharged in 1816 and settled in Sherbrooke township, Lanark County, Ontario.
