Ellen Hall was born in 1825 in Sherbrooke, Lanark County, Ontario. Her parents were Nicholas Hall of County Laois, Ireland born in 1788 and Marie Marcotte of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada born in 1804.
 
Patrick Murphy and Ellen Hall were married at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Perth, Ontario on April 4th, 1853.
